Brooklyn’s very own Smif-N-Wessun--consisting of partners in rhyme, Tek and Steele—have long been considered lyrical lynchpins of true New York rap. Their sound mirrored what played out in Brooklyn’s rough-and-tumble street corners, and in many ways offers poetic insight into the lives of two veteran vanguards keen on providing a soundtrack to the streets.
Smif-N-Wessun’s debut album Dah Shinin’ produced such neck-snapping anthems as “Bucktown” and “Wrekonize" with the duo switching up their Gemini-style back-and-forth flow for a pared-back, almost subdued rhyme pattern on "Sound Bwoy Bureill.” With the groundbreaking album first hitting the scene over 25 years ago, the dynamic duo thought to honor the project’s historic timeline by aligning with STiCH to create their commemorative “Bucktown 360” collection.
